An important part of succeeding is having the courage to fail. After ‘failing’ as a Hawthorn footballer and a lawyer, Tony learned through the adrenaline charged lottery of his Race Around the World experience that if you are in it, you might just win it. A funny, photo-accompanied jaunt through the worlds of footy, law, media, book writing and even arm wrestling!

“The Organising Committee for the 25th anniversary conference for the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association held at the MCG from 14th-16th October 2015 is delighted to provide the following reference for you.
The 25th annual Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA) conference was held at the world famous MCG in October 2015. Many luminaries including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria the Hon Marilyn Warren AC, David Howman Director General of WADA, Paul Hayes barrister, Peggy O'Neal President Richmond FC and Tracey Gaudry Vice President of the UCI amongst many others, educated, entertained and amused the assembled gathering of sports lawyers, sports administrators and students of sport management programmes over the course of 2 days.
Another luminary, sports enthusiast, prolific writer, Hawthorn Reserves 1 gamer, Race around the World winner and one time lawyer himself, Tony Wilson wrote and delivered a first class hypothetical about the sainted sport of Farnarkling directed to a panel of ten distinguished sports, law, and media personalities. He reprised the hypothetical held at the first ANZSLA conference in 1991. For two hours, he bedazzled all those in the MCG Dining Room as he constructed the fictional world of the hypothetical and teased out many issues relevant to our conference delegates and sports fans generally: match fixing, cheating both marital and otherwise, illegal and party drugs, blackmail, the role of agents and myriad other issues. By three quarter time the panellists were exhausted by having to think on their feet as the issues roiled around them. Although there were no orange boys or girls on site they sallied on resulting in a roar of appreciation and approval for the panel members for just surviving and for Tony in particular for a fantastic afternoon's entertainment when not a sporting stone or shibboleth was left unturned.
Tony then took himself a short break before expertly hosting the conference gala dinner at the gorgeous Myer Mural Hall. His intertwining of the serious and the hilarious was well received by all and his calmness ensured the formalities were managed without a hitch.
The ANZSLA conference organising committee commends and thanks Tony for his work with both the hypothetical, a relic of the 90s but much fun nonetheless, and the dinner.” - Margot Foster AM, ANZSLA Organising Committee
“At our final Centenary Year event, Ivanhoe Grammar School needed a skillful MC that could connect with an audience that ranged in age from 18 to 90. Our 'Teams of the Centenary' night was always going to be a tough gig but Tony was able to keep the audience of 300, engaged, entertained and informed. His relaxed, yet professional style resonated with the diverse age group and as was commented at the end of the night, 'He nailed it!' Thanks Tony for turning a potentially good night into a great event.” - Paul Walsh, Ivanhoe Grammar School
“Tony has hosted the past two Big V Club Lunches for the VAFA. The Big V Club is a chance for past players who wore the Big V in representative matches to get together annually and celebrate the induction of new champions and legends of the Big V. Needless to say with 250 former footballers catching up to relive their glory days, the crowd is a tough one, but Tony's ability to mix perfectly the formalities of the day with a comical and relaxed style is fantastic.
